In part I of this short manual, we’ve established that SEO is a form of writing that helps websites become more visible to major search engines. In part II we’ll try to give some useful insight about how to start doing it. Basically, you don’t have to be a skilled content writer from the beginning, you can become one as you go along.
How to do it?
First, you need to know that you can’t just throw some words on a page and call it writing for SEO J A very important thing to remember is that your writing and keywords should feel natural, not a struggle. Maybe start writing about something people care about. Or what you care about.
The creative writing will, of course, need to contain the keywords we were talking about in part I, necessary to get the content visible.
But don’t rush and be too hard on yourself, every improvement process takes time. If the content is good, a website will become highly visible and will appear in the first pages of results when someone searches for that topic.
Below, we’re going to try to organize some “secrets” oh how to start doing good SEO writing.
Good keyword research
Keywords are the search phrases people type in when they are looking for information on the Internet. So first, make a list with the keywords you need. Then, put them to work in a proper manner, by introducing them into the right phrases. Make some research about what people look for and take into consideration all the variables of a keyword. For example, “travel in Spain” or “Spanish travel” can be two different things. So try to think about what people actually want to know when they search for specific key phrases and words. When you find the right keywords, your ranking potential increases.
As we mentioned above, write about something people care about. This will make the whole writing experience nicer and easier, and the keywords will sound natural, as they should. Maybe even try to read your articles out loud, this technique helps find mistakes. It’s easier to hear if something doesn’t sound quite right.
Know your grammar
The purpose is to write engaging content, that’s also grammatically correct and well-organized. Easy to understand is another must when writing for SEO. Use headings to make it easier to scan. Also, keep it long enough to count but short enough to not become boring. Doesn’t seem so hard, does it? J
Use a checklist
You might find it useful to outline your keywords in a separate page, and just cross them off after you used them in the article. The copy – paste technique never fails and you can also bold mark them in your page to see how many times you’ve used them.
Edit and proofread
Last but not least, the final touches. Proofreading is the final stage of the editing process, which checks the misspellings, grammar mistakes and punctuation. Proofread only after you have finished all the other editing revisions.
Basically, it all has to start with the writing. Don’t forget that becoming a SEO writing expert takes time, so take as long as you need to learn all about it.
